What is Wiki.js?

Wiki.js is a documentation platform with Markdown and visual editors, a navigable page tree, full-text search and per-page permissions.

It can store its content in a Git repository, which means your documentation has a reviewable history and is not trapped inside a database.

Getting started with Wiki.js

When the build finishes, your server's page in the dashboard shows its HTTPS address, its root password and any sign-in details the installer set for Wiki.js. The build console streams every step as it happens, so you can see exactly what was installed rather than taking it on trust.
The setup screen creates the administrator account and asks which storage to use — choose Git if you want your pages versioned outside the database. Then create the home page.
Add your own domain from the same page when you are ready: point a DNS record at the server and the certificate is issued for you. The original address keeps working, so nothing you configured against it breaks.
Take a backup once Wiki.js is configured the way you want it. A backup captures the whole server, so restoring one brings back Wiki.js and its data together — and it is the only thing that will bring them back.

Can I keep the content in Git?

Yes. Wiki.js can sync pages to a Git repository in both directions, which also gives you an off-server copy.

Is it a good Confluence replacement?

For documentation, largely yes, and it is considerably lighter to run. It is not a full project-management suite.
