What is Verdaccio?
Verdaccio hosts your organisation's private npm packages and transparently proxies everything else from the public registry, caching what it fetches.
That gives you a place to publish internal packages and insulation from the public registry being slow, rate-limited or unavailable mid-build.

Getting started with Verdaccio
- When the build finishes, your server's page in the dashboard shows its HTTPS address, its root password and any sign-in details the installer set for Verdaccio. The build console streams every step as it happens, so you can see exactly what was installed rather than taking it on trust.
- The registry answers immediately. Point npm at it, create a user with `npm adduser`, then publish a private package — anything not published here is fetched from the public registry and cached.
- Add your own domain from the same page when you are ready: point a DNS record at the server and the certificate is issued for you. The original address keeps working, so nothing you configured against it breaks.
- Take a backup once Verdaccio is configured the way you want it. A backup captures the whole server, so restoring one brings back Verdaccio and its data together — and it is the only thing that will bring them back.

Do I have to change my workflow?
Only the registry URL. `npm publish` and `npm install` behave normally against it.
What if Verdaccio is down?
Point the registry back at the public one for public packages. Private packages are only available from here, so back the server up.
How long does it take to install Verdaccio?
About a minute. Choosing Verdaccio at checkout builds the server, installs it, and publishes it on an HTTPS address, streaming the progress to your browser as it happens.
What size server does Verdaccio need?
