What is Portainer?
Portainer manages a Docker host from the browser — start and stop containers, read logs, open a shell inside one, deploy Compose stacks and manage volumes and networks.
It is the fastest way to make a Docker server operable by someone who does not want to memorise CLI flags.

Getting started with Portainer
- When the build finishes, your server's page in the dashboard shows its HTTPS address, its root password and any sign-in details the installer set for Portainer. The build console streams every step as it happens, so you can see exactly what was installed rather than taking it on trust.
- The first screen creates the admin user, so set a strong password. Portainer then attaches to the local Docker environment and lists every container, image and volume on the server.
- Add your own domain from the same page when you are ready: point a DNS record at the server and the certificate is issued for you. The original address keeps working, so nothing you configured against it breaks.
- Take a backup once Portainer is configured the way you want it. A backup captures the whole server, so restoring one brings back Portainer and its data together — and it is the only thing that will bring them back.
