What is Appsmith?

Appsmith is a low-code platform for internal applications: you connect a datasource, drag widgets onto a page, bind them with JavaScript expressions, and deploy.

It exists to kill the backlog of one-off admin screens — the CRUD panels, support consoles and ops dashboards that are never worth a full front-end project.

Getting started with Appsmith

1. When the build finishes, your server's page in the dashboard shows its HTTPS address, its root password and any sign-in details the installer set for Appsmith. The build console streams every step as it happens, so you can see exactly what was installed rather than taking it on trust.
2. Create the admin account, add a datasource, and drag your first widget onto the canvas. Bind it to a query and the page is usable before you have written a line of front-end code.
3. Add your own domain from the same page when you are ready: point a DNS record at the server and the certificate is issued for you. The original address keeps working, so nothing you configured against it breaks.
4. Take a backup once Appsmith is configured the way you want it. A backup captures the whole server, so restoring one brings back Appsmith and its data together — and it is the only thing that will bring them back.
