What is Paperless-ngx?
Paperless-ngx takes scanned documents and PDFs, runs OCR over them, extracts dates and correspondents, tags them, and puts the whole archive behind full-text search.
The goal is a filing cabinet you can grep: once a document is in, you find it by typing a word you remember rather than by remembering where you filed it.

- Sign in with the credentials your dashboard shows and upload one document to watch the OCR run. Then set up the consume folder or a mailbox so scans arrive on their own.
- Add your own domain from the same page when you are ready: point a DNS record at the server and the certificate is issued for you. The original address keeps working, so nothing you configured against it breaks.
- Take a backup once Paperless-ngx is configured the way you want it. A backup captures the whole server, so restoring one brings back Paperless-ngx and its data together — and it is the only thing that will bring them back.

Why is the minimum plan larger?
OCR is CPU and memory intensive during ingestion, and the archive keeps both the original and the processed copy on disk. The minimum reflects that rather than an idle install.
Are my documents recoverable if the server dies?
Only from a backup. Since this is likely to become the only copy of your paperwork, take backups and keep one off the server.
