What is Mailpit?
Mailpit accepts SMTP from your application and, instead of delivering anything, shows every message in a web interface with its HTML, plain text, headers, attachments and spam score.
It is a development and staging tool whose entire value is that mail cannot escape: point your app's SMTP settings at it and test the full send path with no risk of emailing a customer.

Getting started with Mailpit
- When the build finishes, your server's page in the dashboard shows its HTTPS address, its root password and any sign-in details the installer set for Mailpit. The build console streams every step as it happens, so you can see exactly what was installed rather than taking it on trust.
- The web UI opens with an empty inbox. Point your application's SMTP settings at this server, send a test message, and it appears here with its HTML, headers and spam score — and goes no further.
- Add your own domain from the same page when you are ready: point a DNS record at the server and the certificate is issued for you. The original address keeps working, so nothing you configured against it breaks.
- Take a backup once Mailpit is configured the way you want it. A backup captures the whole server, so restoring one brings back Mailpit and its data together — and it is the only thing that will bring them back.

It has relay capability, but the reason to run it is to NOT deliver. Keep relaying off in a test environment: a staging system that can reach real inboxes will eventually reach one.
