What is File Browser?
File Browser gives a directory on the server a web interface: browse, upload, download, rename, edit text files and share links, from any browser.
It is small and single-purpose — a file manager, not a sync platform — which makes it a good companion to a server you also use over SSH.

Getting started with File Browser
- When the build finishes, your server's page in the dashboard shows its HTTPS address, its root password and any sign-in details the installer set for File Browser. The build console streams every step as it happens, so you can see exactly what was installed rather than taking it on trust.
- Sign in with the credentials your dashboard shows and change the password straight away. Then set the root directory each user should see, so nobody gets more of the filesystem than they need.
- Add your own domain from the same page when you are ready: point a DNS record at the server and the certificate is issued for you. The original address keeps working, so nothing you configured against it breaks.
- Take a backup once File Browser is configured the way you want it. A backup captures the whole server, so restoring one brings back File Browser and its data together — and it is the only thing that will bring them back.
Frequently asked questions
Does it sync like Dropbox?
No, and deliberately not. It is a browser-based file manager. For sync clients on desktops and phones, Nextcloud or Syncthing are the right one-click apps.
Can I limit a user to one folder?
Yes, each user has a scope, so they see only the directory you assign them.
How long does it take to install File Browser?
