Getting started with Excalidraw
- When the build finishes, your server's page in the dashboard shows its HTTPS address, its root password and any sign-in details the installer set for Excalidraw. The build console streams every step as it happens, so you can see exactly what was installed rather than taking it on trust.
- The canvas is ready with no account and no setup. Draw, then export to PNG or SVG — scenes live in your browser's storage, so save a file for anything you need to keep.
- Add your own domain from the same page when you are ready: point a DNS record at the server and the certificate is issued for you. The original address keeps working, so nothing you configured against it breaks.
- Take a backup once Excalidraw is configured the way you want it. A backup captures the whole server, so restoring one brings back Excalidraw and its data together — and it is the only thing that will bring them back.

Where are my drawings saved?
In your browser's local storage by default, with export to a file when you want a copy. There is no account and no server-side library in this install.
Does collaboration work when self-hosted?
Live collaboration needs Excalidraw's separate room server. The single-user whiteboard works fully out of the box.
How long does it take to install Excalidraw?

What size server does Excalidraw need?
