What is Clean OS?

A plain, untouched Linux install — your choice of Ubuntu, Debian, Alma, Rocky, Alpine or Fedora — with a root account and an SSH port, and no application layer on top of it.

Nothing is pre-configured beyond networking and SSH, so there is no vendor stack to work around and no surprise service listening on a port you did not choose.

Getting started with Clean OS

1. When the build finishes, your server's page in the dashboard shows its connection details, its root password and any sign-in details the installer set for Clean OS. The build console streams every step as it happens, so you can see exactly what was installed rather than taking it on trust.
2. You land on a shell prompt as root. Update the package list, add your own SSH key, and install whatever the project needs — nothing has been decided for you.
3. Connect your application using the credentials on that page, and restrict access with the firewall so that only the addresses which need this service can reach it.
4. Take a backup once Clean OS is configured the way you want it. A backup captures the whole server, so restoring one brings back Clean OS and its data together — and it is the only thing that will bring them back.
